Emergency Room Explained is written by a practicing emergency physician in the United States.

The site was created to help patients and families understand what happens in the emergency department, why certain decisions are made, and why emergency care may differ from what they expected.

Its articles draw on clinical experience in emergency medicine and explain topics such as triage, waiting-room care, testing, abnormal results, admission, discharge, and the limits of an emergency evaluation.

"An Emergency Physician" is used as the author's public identity to keep the focus on the educational content rather than on an individual physician or employer.
